Fully-detailed Canny Edge Detection Animation on Whiz Burger Sign
Tutorial Description
This is an animation of running the Canny edge detection algorithm on a still frame. All aspects of the algorithm are shown, in the following order: - Original picture - Gaussian blur applied - Gradient Magnitude - Gradient Angle - Gradient Angle Reduction - Non-Maximum Suppression - High thresholding - Low thresholding - Hysteresis threshold at different points in the image - Final result For a good introduction to the Canny algorithm: suraj.lums.edu.pk/~cs436a02/CannyImplementation.htm Code is my own Canny routine in MATLAB made for my Image Processing class lab in Electrical Engineering at Ecole de technologie superieure. I used ImageMagick to add captions and VirtualDub to encode to video. The still frame is a picture taken at the location of "Whiz Burgers" at 700 S Van Ness Ave (between 18th St & 19th St) in the mission district of San Francisco by my fiancée.
