Standing wave using Matlab - Video

Standing wave using Matlab
Tutorial Description
This wave was created by using the Matlab program. A standing wave is created when you have, for instance, a wave displacement inside a bounded area, like the surface of a glass of water, for instance, or the waves in a swimming pool. A standing wave can be created mathematically by considering the sum of two cosine waves with different frequencies. For this case, the wave is of the formy(x)=A*cos{(w1+w2)/2 t}*sin{(w1-w2}/2 t},where w1 and w2 are the frequencies of two waves encountering each other, t is the time, and cos and sin refer to the cosine and sine functions. If anything characterises a standing wave is that there are points known as "nodes", where the displacement is practically null, while there are points that oscillate completely between the maximum and the minimum value, as one can see in this video. This is better know as the "peaks and valleys" of the wave.
